Teutopolis, Neoga Move Into Regional Title Games

PANA -- Teutopolis High School pounded Pana 63-23 Tuesday evening in the Class 2A Pana Girls Basketball Regional and moves into the championship game Thursday.

The Wooden Shoes took a 15-6 opening quarter lead as Shelby Thompson banked home seven points then added seven more in the second period as the Wooden Shoes held a 27-9 halftime lead.

Thompson finished with 19 points and was the lone player in the game in double figures. Hannah Bueker added eight points and Raegan Drees seven. Anna Hartke pulled down eight rebounds while Michelle Schmidt had six. Bueker led in steals with three.

The Shoes advance to face Sullivan at 7 p.m. Thursday for the championship.  Sullivan handed Shelbyville/Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg a 66-24 loss Tuesday evening.

Class 1A Casey-Westfield Regional

Neoga pushed its way into the championship game of this regional with a 54-31 victory over Casey-Westfield.

The Indians took a 27-19 halftime lead then held Casey-Westfield to only 16 second half points while racking up 29. Madison Butler led the way with 21 points while E.C. Thies added 18.

Neoga improves to 25-3 on the season and will now face Arcola, a 51-48 winner over Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, at 7 p.m. Thursday for the regional championship. The two teams played earlier in the season and Neoga won 39-27. Neoga has won 10 straight and Arcola has won 12 straight. Arcola beat Neoga last year in regional play 50-47.

Class 1A Palestine Regional

South Central saw its season come to a close in the Palestine Regional Tuesday evening.

The Cougars held a 7-3 lead on Oblong in the opening quarter and led 22-12 at halftime. Oblong came back with an 11-7 third period run and outscored the Cougars 14-4 in the final period to pull out the victory.

Hahn tallied 18 for South Central while Smith added nine points.

In the opening contest, Palestine/Hutsonville won over Red Hill (Bridgeport) 61-49.

Palestine-Hutsonville now advances to meet Oblong at 7 p.m. Thursday for the regional champoinship.

Class 2A Robinson Regional

Newton saw its season come to a close with a 41-39 loss to Marshall in the Robinson Regional Tuesday.

The Eagles held a 13-6 opening quarter lead and led 24-16 at halftime. Marshall edged back with a 10-8 third period run to trail 32-26 then had a 15-7 run to pull out the win.

Newton had even scoring as Richards tallied nine, Kerner eight and Hartrich eight. Newton finishes the season with an 18-12 record.

In the opening contest,  Flora was a 47-29 winner over Lawrenceville. Flora advances to face Marshall at 7 p.m. Thursday for the regional championship.
