Effingham St. Anthony High School celebrated Senior Night with a 41-35 National Trail Conference victory over St. Elmo/Brownstown Thursday evening at The Enlow Center.

The Bulldogs edged out to a 10-6 opening quarter lead as Morgan Gardewine knocked in a three-pointer and had five points. St. Anthony continued to move ahead with a 12-9 second period run to lead 22-15 at halftime. Megan Nuxoll scored four points then came back with a five-point third quarter as the Bulldogs led 33-22 going into the final period.

Nuxoll finished with 11 points for the Bulldogs while Emiliy McDevitt scored 10. Nuxoll led in rebounds with 10 while McDevitt had seven. The Bulldogs have three seniors, Kelsea Dust, Gardewine and Nuxoll. The Bulldogs ended regular season play and will be back in action Wednesday in the 1A Dieterich Regional against either St. Elmo/Brownstown or Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 7:30 p.m.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Brown with 11 and Pruett with 10. SEB opens regional play Monday in the 1A Dieterich Regional against Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 7:30 p.m.

At Neoga

This was a battle between two teams that are having outstanding seasons. Neoga came out of the fray with a 71-43 National Trail Conference win over Dieterich and set a season record for most wins in a season.

The Indians edged out to a 20-17 opening quarter lead then had a 38-20 run over the next two quarters to put the contest in the win column. Neoga ends its the regular season with a perfect 6-0 conference mark and stands at 24-5 overall.

E.C. Thies and Jaycie Roy were the big scoring guns for the Indians with 24 and 21 points respectively. Madison Butler chipped in with 15 points. Butler led in assists with eight while Thies had five steals. Olivia Ott led in rebounds with nine.

Neoga, drawing the No. 1 seed, will be back in action Tuesday in the Class 1A Casey-Westfield Regional against either Tri-County or Casey-Westfield. at 6 p.m.

Dieterich dropped to 3-2 in the conference and 19-8 overall. The Maroons were led by Courtney Flach with 16 points and Mallorie Vahling with 11. Vahling led in rebounds with 11. Kelsey Webb led in assists with three. Elizabeth Abbott had two steals.

The Maroons drew the No. 1 seed in its own Class 1A Regional and won't play until Wednesday against the winner of the Altamont vs. Ramsey contest. Before that, Dieterich ends the regular season Saturday hosting Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 6:15 p.m.

At Newton

Newton hosted Casey-Westfield during Senior Night festivities and claimed a 65-45 victory Thursday evening.

The Eagles stepped out to a 27-22 hafltime lead then had a 38-23 second half run. Richards tallied 17 for the winners while Koebele added 11 and Hartrich 10.

The Eagles are now 5-4 in the Little Illini Conference, 17-11 overall. Newton will be back in action Monday as the No. 3 seed in the Class 2A Robinson Regional against Robinson at 7:30 p.m.

Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran came calling for a non-conference contest and handed host Altamont a 63-29 loss Thursday evening.

CORL took a 32-19 halftime lead and led 44-23 going into the final quarter. Boehne tallied 24 points for the winners, mostly on free throws as she connected on 12 of 15. Agan added 14 points.

Altamont was led by Duckwitz with 11 points.

Wayne City picked up a 35-23 non-conference win over South Central Thursday evening.

Wayne City held a 19-12 first half lead as Bass tallied 11 of her 13 points. Wayne City then had a 14-2 third period lead.

South Central was led by Abby Hahn with six points.

At Cowden

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City stayed with Pana for a quarter, trailing only 14-13. But the Panthers went on a tear, outscoring the Hornets 22-4 in the second period and went on for a 54-31 non-conference win.

Pana had only one player in double figures while 11 scored in the contest. Siegert led with 10 points. CHBC was led by Ward with 11 and J. Morris with nine.

Martinsville handed Cumberland a 32-24 defeat. Cumberland led 7-6 after the opening quarter but Martinsville took a 12-11 halftime lead. Cumberland came back with a 9-6 third period run for a 20-18 lead going into the final quarter. Martinsville then had a 14-4 final quarter surge for the win.

Lochbaum led Cumberland with nine points.
