Santa Clara, CA (SportsNetwork.com) -- Kyle Wiltjer had 22 points and six rebounds, Byron Wesley added 17 points and seven boards and No. 2 Gonzaga pulled away in the second half to defeat Santa Clara 77-63 on Thursday night. Gary Bell Jr. knocked down all three of his three-point attempts and finished with 16 points for the Bulldogs (23-1, 11-0 WCC), who have won 16 straight games. Jared Brownridge netted 25 points to lead the Broncos (11-13, 5-7).
Cincinnati 62, (23) SMU 54
Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) -- Jermaine Sanders scored 15 points and Farad Cobb added 14 off the bench to help Cincinnati to a 62-54 road victory over No. 23 SMU on Thursday night. Sanders also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and Troy Caupain also supplied 14 points for the Bearcats (16-6, 7-3 AAC), who have won five of their last six. Cincinnati took a 56-50 win over SMU at home on Jan. 3. Cannen Cunningham paced the Mustangs (18-5, 9-2) with 14 points and Sterling Brown had 12. Nic Moore and Markus Kennedy were held to 15 points combined on 4-of-17 shooting, with Moore going 1-for-8 from the floor in the setback. SMU was denied its ninth straight win, which would have been its first nine-game run since 1997-98.
Illinois Meets Michigan State Tomorrow In East Lansing
(East Lansing, MI) -- The Illinois Fighting Illini meet the Michigan State Spartans tomorrow afternoon in East Lansing. The Illini have won two in-a-row following Tuesday's 66-54 victory over Rutgers. Illinois is 15-8 on the season and 5-and-5 in Big Ten play. Michigan State sits at 15-7 and 6-3.
In other college basketball action Saturday, 10th-ranked Notre Dame is at fifth-ranked Duke, Northwestern is on the road facing fourth-ranked Wisconsin, DePaul is at 22nd-ranked Butler, and Loyola hosts Indiana State.
