Duke Fends Off Georgia Tech, College Scores

Durham, NC (SportsNetwork.com) -- Quinn Cook totaled 17 points as No. 4 Duke fended off Georgia Tech by a 72-66 count on Wednesday at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Justise Winslow added 15 points and 10 rebounds with Jahlil Okafor adding 14 points for the Blue Devils (19-3, 6-3 ACC), who will host Notre Dame this Saturday. Chris Bolden produced 16 points and Marcus Georges-Hunt picked up 14 and nine boards for the Yellow Jackets (10-12, 1-9), losers in nine of their last 10.


(7) Villanova 70, Marquette 52

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) -- Ryan Arcidiacono hit four 3-pointers and matched a season-high with 18 points as seventh-ranked Villanova shook off a slow start to post a 70-52 victory over Marquette at Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday night. Darrun Hilliard scored 12 points and Josh Hart added 11 with six rebounds for the Wildcats (20-2, 7-2 Big East), who have won three straight since a 20-point loss at Georgetown on Jan. 19. They will look to avenge the setback on Saturday. JaJuan Johnson was the lone Golden Eagles player to reach double figures, finishing with 10. Matt Carlino had nine points and as many rebounds for Marquette (10-12, 2-8), which has dropped six games in a row.


(10) Notre Dame 71, Boston College 63

South Bend, IN (SportsNetwork.com) -- With a rematch against No. 4 Duke on the horizon, it would not be too much of a surprise to see 10th-ranked Notre Dame get caught looking ahead with Boston College entering Purcell Pavilion on Wednesday. The Irish used a strong start to get out to a large lead in the first half, then had to hold off the surging Eagles in the second for a 71-63 win. Jerian Grant and Steve Vasturia each scored 17 points to lead Notre Dame (21-3, 9-2 ACC), which has won six of its last seven entering Saturday's game at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Irish slipped past Duke at home last Wednesday before a 76-72 loss at Pittsburgh over the weekend. Zach Auguste had 16 points with five rebounds and Pat Connaughton added 11 points in the win. Olivier Hanlan poured in a season-high 28 points on 6-of-9 shooting from 3-point range for Boston College (9-12, 1-8).


(16) Wichita State 62, Bradley 59

Peoria, IL (SportsNetwork.com) -- Ron Baker scored 14 points and No. 16 Wichita State held off Bradley for a narrow 62-59 victory on Wednesday. Baker shot 4- of-6 from the field, including 3-for-4 from 3-point range, Tekele Cotton had 10 points and seven rebounds and Darius Carter also finished with 10 for the Shockers (20-3, 10-1 MVC), who bounced back from a 70-54 loss to UNI on Saturday. Tramique Sutherland finished with a game-high 18 points and Auston Barnes supplied 13 points and 10 boards for the Braves, (7-17, 2-9), who have dropped eight of their past nine games.


(17) Maryland 64, Penn State 58

College Park, MD (SportsNetwork.com) -- Dez Wells had 23 points and seven rebounds and No. 17 Maryland defeated Penn State 64-58 on Wednesday night. Jake Layman finished with 10 points and nine rebounds for Maryland (19-4, 7-3), which had dropped two of its last three games coming in. D.J. Newbill posted 18 points, seven boards and five assists, while Geno Thorpe added 10 points for the Nittany Lions (14-9, 2-8), who have lost eight of their last 10
contests.


(18) VCU 72, George Mason 60

Fairfax, VA (SportsNetwork.com) -- Melvin Johnson scored 17 points to help 18th-ranked VCU overcome injuries to two key players and record a 72-60 victory over George Mason. The Rams played for the first time since NCAA steals leader Briante Weber tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee during Saturday's upset loss to Richmond, while top scorer Treveon Graham sat out nearly all of the second half with a sprained ankle. VCU (18-4, 8-1 A-10) received  strong contributions from their replacements, however. JeQuan Lewis posted 13 points filling in for Weber, while freshman Justin Tillman totaled 10 on 5-of-5 shooting with Graham limited to four points in 12 minutes. Jalen Jenkins finished with 15 points, Shevon Thompson racked up 16 rebounds and Patrick Holloway netted 13 points for George Mason (7-14, 2-7), but the Patriots shot just 30.8 percent in the second half after leading 34-32 at the break.


(19) Baylor 77, TCU 57

Waco, TX (SportsNetwork.com) -- Rico Gathers pulled down 17 rebounds while pacing a balanced Baylor attack with 14 points as the 19th-ranked Bears cruised to a 77-57 victory over TCU in Big 12 action. Four other players finished in double figures in the Bears' fifth win in their last seven conference games, a stretch that began with a 66-59 overtime squeaker at TCU on Jan. 10. Kenny Chery had 13 points with six assists for Baylor (17-5, 5-4 Big 12), with Royce O'Neale chipping in 12 points and Taurean Prince and Lester Medford netting 11 and 10, respectively. TCU (14-8, 1-8), which has now dropped five straight -- all to ranked teams -- during a murderous portion of its schedule, was led by Amric Fields' 14 points. Kenrich Williams and Trey Zeigler each scored 11 in defeat.


Purdue 60, (20) Ohio State 58

West Lafayette, IN (SportsNetwork.com) -- ackey Arena is not the place to be if you're a ranked team. Just ask Ohio State. Rapheal Davis scored 20 points, Jon Octeus had 14 and Purdue knocked off the No. 20 Buckeyes 60-58 on Wednesday night in another Big Ten clash that went the Boilermakers' way. It marked Purdue's third consecutive win over a top-25 team at home following victories over Iowa and Indiana last month. Davis scored 12 of his 20 points in the second half and Octeus had 10 in the half as the Boilermakers (15-8, 7-3 Big Ten) extended their winning streak to four games overall. A.J. Hammons added seven points, seven rebounds and seven blocks in the win. Standout freshman D'Angelo Russell scored 20 points to lead Ohio State (17-6, 6-4), which had a three-game winning streak snapped.


Providence 74, (24) Georgetown 71

Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) -- Ben Bentil finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds as Providence defeated No. 24 Georgetown 74-71 in a back-and- forth affair at Verizon Center. LaDontae Henton also netted 16 points along with six rebounds, Carson Desrosiers had 14 points and Kris Dunn scored 12 with nine assists and six steals for the Friars (17-6, 7-3 Big East), who have won four of their last five games. D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera paced the Hoyas (15-7, 7-4) with a game-high 21 points and Joshua Smith, Isaac Copeland and Tre Campbell each contributed 10 points in defeat. Providence also defeated Georgetown 60-57 in overtime on Jan. 10.


Oklahoma State 65, (25) Texas 63 (OT)

Austin, TX (SportsNetwork.com) -- Phil Forte made two free throws with 2.1 seconds remaining in overtime to lift Oklahoma State to a 65-63 victory over No. 25 Texas on Wednesday night. Le'Bryan Nash led the Cowboys (15-7, 5-5 Big 12) with 17 points, while Forte finished with 14. The duo struggled shooting as they combined to go 9-of-32 from the floor. Anthony Hickey Jr. scored 15 points and recorded four steals for Oklahoma State. Isaiah Taylor  had 18 points  but  committed seven  of  the Longhorns'  18 turnovers. Demarcus Holland supplied 14 points and five rebounds for Texas (14-8, 3-6), which has lost four games in a row.


Illinois At Michigan State Saturday

(East Lansing, MI) -- Illinois heads to East Lansing to battle Michigan State on Saturday. The Fighting Illini beat Rutgers 66-54 on Tuesday for their second straight win. Illinois is 15-8 overall and 5-5 in the Big Ten. The Spartans are 15-7, including 6-3 in conference.
