Utah Routs Southern California, College Scores

Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) -- Jakob Poeltl had 14 points and nine rebounds and the 11th-ranked Utes routed Southern California 67-39 on Sunday afternoon.

Delon Wright netted 11 points and Jordan Loveridge added 10 for Utah (17-4, 7-2 Pac-12), which bounced back in a big way following its 69-59 defeat at UCLA Thursday.

"Our guys really defended," said Utah head coach Larry Krystkowiak. "Any time you're able to keep a team under 40 points, I think it says quite a bit about your defense."

The Utes have won three of their last four games.

Malik Martin was the only double-digit scorer for USC (9-12, 1-8), finishing with 11 points.

Utah raced out to a 14-3 start and a 13-0 run later in the opening half helped turn the game into a laugher. Wright had five points during the surge, which was capped on a Dallin Bachynski layup for a 32-9 margin late in the frame.

The Utes led 32-12 at the break and cruised to the easy triumph over the final 20 minutes.

Florida State 55, (23) Miami-Florida 54

Tallahassee, FL (SportsNetwork.com) -- Montay Brandon scored 12 of his 18 points in the second half to help Florida State edge No. 23 Miami-Florida, 55-54, on Sunday. The Seminoles (12-10, 4-5 ACC) trailed by 11 at the break but gradually chipped away at that deficit in the second half before Kiel Turpin's jumper with 1:41 to go accounted for the final margin. Sheldon McClellan led the Hurricanes (14-7, 4-4) with 13 points and Davon Reed added 11. Miami scored its last points of the game with 3:46 to go and missed its last three shots.
 

Illinois Hosts Rutgers

(Champaign, IL) -- The Fighting Illini are back in action Tuesday hosting Rutgers. Illinois is 14-8 and 4-5 in the Big Ten after defeating Penn State by two points on Saturday. The Scarlet Knights are 10-13 and 2-8 in the conference.

In other local college basketball action, Northwestern is at Nebraska Tuesday night. Also on Tuesday, DePaul hosts Seton Hall. On Wednesday, Notre Dame hosts Boston College, Northern Illinois is at Miami-Ohio and Loyola is at Missouri State.
