Effingham St. Anthony's seventh-grade boys basketball team won its own regional championship Wednesday evening. Members of the team and cheerleaders are, first row, left to right, Kaitlyn Dust, Hannah Buenker, Allie Dasenbrock, Regan Koester, Annika Koester, Audrey Niebrugge and Cailin Gilpin. Effingham St. Anthony captured the championship of its own Class 7-2A Boys Basketball Regional Wednesday evening.

The Bullpups downed Altamont 53-40 for the title. St. Anthony held a 28-16 halftime lead then had a 12-8 third quarter run.

Tingley and Dust were the one-two scoring punch for the Bullpups with 15 points each. Kollman led Altamont with 18 and Reardon chipped in with 11.

St. Anthony now advances to the Assumption Central A&M Sectional Wednesday, February 4 to face either Assumption Central A&M or Nokomis. Those two teams play tonight at 6 p.m. for the Assumption Central A&M Regional title.

Class 7-3A Casey-Westfield Regional

Marshall captured the championship of the Casey-Westfield Regional with a victory over Robinson Nuttall Wednesday evening.

Marshall was a winner 40-28. Marshall now advances to the Teutopolis Sectional where it will take on either Teutopolis or Blue Mound Meridian Wednesday, February 4 at 6:30 p.m.

 

Class 7-4A Tolono Unity Regional

Mattoon claimed the championship of the Tolono Unity Regional with a 41-31 victory over Danville North Ridge Wednesday evening.

Mattoon will face Urbana, a 45-43 winner over Champaign Franklin at the Urbana Regional Wednesday evening. The two regional winners will meet Wednesday, February 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the Effingham Sectional.

Class 7-1A Palestine Regional -- Newton St. Thomas vs. Sigel St. Michael, 6 p.m.

Class 7-1A Mulberry Grove Regional -- Stewardson-Strasburg vs. Mulberry Grove, 6 p.m.

Class 7-3A Sullivan Regional -- Teutopolis vs. Blue Mound Meridian, 6 p.m.

 

At Teutopolis

In eighth-grade regular season competition Wednesday, Effingham downed Teutopolis 42-23.

Wolfe tallied 23 for the Hearts and Jackson added nine. Teutopolis was led by Smith with nine.

The Mustangs are now 17-2 on the season.
