High Scoring Second Day at NTC Tourney; Dieterich, SEB Claim Wins; Other Area Scores

The top-seeded and state-ranked Dieterich Movin Maroons posted a convincing 80-35 win over the Beecher City Eagles in the Maroons' first game at this year's National Trail Conference Tournament at Altamont. There were points aplenty in the nightcap, too, as St. Elmo/Brownstown won 76-53 over the Cowden-Herrick Hornets.

Dieterich and SEB will now play each other in the championship bracket about 7:45pm Thursday, following a consolation bracket game between Beecher City and Cowden-Herrick at 6:15pm.

Dieterich scored early and often in their win over Beecher City, leading 19-6 after one quarter, 38-16 at halftime, and 64-22 after three quarters before outpointing the Eagles 16-13 in the final quarter. 12 different players scored for Dieterich in the game.

Dieterich made 51% of its shots, hitting 28 of 55, and made 17 of 26 foul shots, turning the ball over 12 times while pulling down 29 rebounds and making seven of 18 three-point shots.

Beecher City made just 31% of its shots, 15 of 48, while all six of its foul shots. The Eagles were plagued by 29 turnovers, but did grab 31 rebounds and made five of 12 three-point tries.

Travis Niemerg led Dieterich with 14 points despite suffering an ankle injury that caused him to leave the game in the third quarter. Devin Aherin and Cody Gephart each added 11 points. Also for Dieterich: Alex Bohnhoff, Nick Feldhake and Marshall Mellendorf with eight points apiece, Clayton Campton seven, Lance Niemerg, Ryan Radloff and Charlie Thoele three each, and Travis Elmore and Tyler Higgs two points each.

Austin Rexroad led Beecher City with 10 points. Also for Beecher City: Austin Stefanski and Lance Arnold six each, Austin Shelton and Andrew Moeller four each, Westen Giles three, and Daniel Harder two.

Dieterich is now 21-0 on the season, whle Beecher City slips to 3-14.

St. Elmo/Brownstown had a great night shooting the ball in their victory, making 25 of 47 shots including a phenomenal nine of 12 from three-point range. The Eagles led 25-14 after the first quarter and 43-22 at halftime. It was 62-41 after three quarters,  and SEB edged C-H 14-12 in the fourth quarter.

SEB made 15 of 22 foul shots, turned the ball over 16 times, but pulled down 36 rebounds, twice as many as the Hornets.

Cowden-Herrick made 21 of 53 shots, made just six of 15 foul shots, turned the ball over 15 times but grabbed just 18 rebounds while making seven of 21 three-point tries. The teams combined for 16 three-point baskets.

Landon Feezel starred for SEB, scoring 27 points on 10 of 14 shooting and grabbing nine rebounds. Malachi Maxey scored 20 points on six of nine shooting while pulling down six boards. Also for SEB: Brock Oberlink nine, Kyle Hardimon eight, Klayton Kroll six, Dylan Brooks two, and Cole Smithson and Brenden Noll one apiece.

Konner Blackerby led Cowden-Herrick with 17 points on six of 12 shooting. He was one of four Hornets in double figures, with Micah Sandiford scoring 11 points, and Colton Burrus and Trey Pasley 10 each. Also for C-H: Dylan Barnes three and Aaron Nohren two.

SEB improved to 8-12, while Cowden-Herrick slips to 11-8.
