Bulldogs Claim Win, Girls Roundup

FARINA -- Effingham St. Anthony High School picked up a National Trail Conference girls basketball win over South Central Monday evening, 47-27.
The Bulldogs took an 11-9 opening quarter lead and led 19-13 at halftime as Abbie Schmidt scored five points in the second period. Megan Nuxoll then came back with three baskets in the third quarter and four more in the final period for 17 points, pushing her over the 1,000 point career mark.
South Central was led by Abby Hahn with 12 points. South Central drops to 1-4 in the conference, 7-13 overall.

At Neoga
Neoga High School picked up its fourth straight National Trail Conference victory by trouncing Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 65-21 Monday evening.
The Indians are now 4-0 in the conference and improved to 22-3 overall with their eighth straight victory. They are one victory away from the school record.
Neoga jumped out to a 19-8 opening quarter lead and led 38-13 at halftime. Jaycie Roy had 20 points while EC Thies added 16 points and Madison Butler 14.
CHBC was led by Morrison with seven points.

Mattoon handed Teutopolis a 49-39 loss in action Monday evening.
The Green Wave took a 26-21 halftime lead. Both teams tallied 13 points in the third period before Mattoon had a 10-5 final quarter surge for the winning margin.
Jackson scored 19 for the winners. T-town was led by Hartke with 13 points and six rebounds.

Dieterich pushed into a 35-20 halftime lead and went on to trounce North Clay (Louisville) 62-36 in a non-conference contest.
Mallorie Vahling led the Movin' Maroons with 22 points and 17 rebounds. She also had five steals and three assists. Courtney Flach added 17 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals. The Maroons are now 18-6 on the season.
Carrsan Bible tallied 11 points for the Cardinals.

Newton claimed a Little Illini Conference win over Marshall Monday evening, 49-38 to improve to 4-3 in the conference.
The Eagles trailed Marshall 26-20 at halftime then had a 19-6 third period run. Hartrich scored 21 points, connecting on nine field goals and three of six at the line. Richards chipped in with 10.
The Eagles are now 15-10 overall.
