T-town Takes On Giant Killer Role In Nashville Tournament

NASHVILLE -- Teutopolis High School can now officially be called the Giant Killer. The Wooden Shoes, ranked No. 3 in the latest basketball poll, shocked top-ranked Nashville Monday evening in its own boys invitational tournament, then came back with a 50-49 victory over 14th-ranked Breese Mater Dei Tuesday.

Mater Dei edged out to a 17-10 opening quarter lead and led 30-22 at halftime. The Wooden Shoes started to pick up speed in the third period with a 16-15 edge to trail 45-38 going into the final quarter.

The Wooden Shoes' defense kicked into high gear in the final quarter and T-town found the net from the free throw line for a 12-4 final period run and the victory.

Tyler Gebben was the lone player in double figures for the Shoes with 17 points. Devin Smith chipped in with eight.

T-town is now 2-0 in the tournament and won't be back in acction until Friday against Mascoutah at 6:30 p.m. The Shoes will finish out the tournament Saturday against Breese Central at 6:30 p.m.
