SIGEL -- Two consolation bracket games were contested Monday evening in the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament.

In the opening contest, Windsor claimed a 41-20 win over Stewardson-Strasburg. Windsor led 28-12 at halftime and never looked back. Miller scored 12 and Beck 10 for the winners.

Stew-Stras was led by Burton with 12 points. Stew-Stras drops to 2-16.

In the second game, Dieterich blasted Beecher City 41-8. Dieterich will now face Windsor at 5:30 p.m. Thursday for the consolation championship.

Dieterich held Beecher City scoreless in the opening quarter and never looked back. Bohnhoff led with 13 points for the winners. Doty led Beecher City with five.

The tournament continues Tuesday in winner bracket action. Sigel St. Michael faces Altamont at 6:15 p.m. and St. Elmo/Brownstown takes on Cowden-Herrick at 7:30.

Greenville Eighth-Grade Tournament

Effingham picked up a loss and Effingham St. Anthony sufferd a defeat in oepning round play of the 67th Annual James Burke Memorial Tournament in Greenville.

Effingham claimed the opening game over Troy Triad 40-23. The Mustangs held a 13-9 first half lead then broke loose with a 21-7 third period run.

Wolfe scored 18 points, pulled down eight rebounds and had four steals for Effingham. Jackson had three steals and Lee had four rebounds. The Mustangs are now 14-2 on the season and will face Aviston, a 30-26 winner over Hillsboro, at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Troy Triad is coached by former St. Anthony varsity coach Chris Kusnerick.

St. Anthony fell to Carlyle 36-32 in game three. Greenville edged Salem 43-40 in the final contest.

St. Anthony now meets Salem at 7 p.m. today in consolation bracket action. Triad takes on Hillsboro at 6 p.m. in consy play. In the second game Thursday, Carlyle faces Greenville at 7 p.m.

At Monticello

In regular season games, Teutopolis downed Monticello. T-town won the seventh-grade contest 36-7 by jumping out to a 10-0 opening quarter lead.

Mitch Hardiek scored nine and Brock Deters eight for the winners who improve to 18-3.

In the eighth-grade game, T-town was a 28-15 winner. T-town held a 15-4 first half lead. Josh Hardiek scored eight for the winners who are now 13-8 on the season.
