MATTOON -- Effingham captured a 37-32 victory over host Mattoon in boys seventh-grade B basketball action Tuesday evening.

Mattoon jumped out to an early 9-6 lead and led 19-13 at halftime. The Mustangs outscored Mattoon 11-5 in the third period to tie the score at 24-24. Effingham completed the comeback in the fourth, getting four points each from Parker Siner and Luke Spencer.

Carson Utz led Effingham with seven points. Clayton Cramsey had eight rebounds and Spencer four steals.

In eighth-grade B play, Mattoon claimed a 29-9 victory. Mattoon held a 10-4 first half lead then had a 19-5 second half run.

Effingham was led by Rich with five points and three rebounds. Ballman added two steals.

At St. Elmo

Dieterich traveled to St. Elmo/Brownstown and won the seventh-grade contest 41-38 but lost the eighth-grade game 43-42.

In the seventh-grade contest, Dieterich took the early 13-3 lead then held off a second period challenge for the win. Derek Kuhl tallied 13 for the winners while Dalton Will added 12. St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Goldsborough with 10.

In the eighth-grade contest, St. Elmo/Brownstown took the one point victory. Dieterich led 20-17 at halftime but St.  Elmo/Brownstown came back with a 26-22 second half to claim the win.

Dieterich was led by Seth Bohnhoff with 15. Philpot led St. Elmo/Brownstown with 22 while Adermann added 13.

At Altamont

Altamont Lutheran split victories with Odin Tuesday evening.

Odin picked up the seventh-grade win, 25-23. In eighth-grade play, ALIS won 41-32.

In sixth-grade A and B action, Greenville came calling and picked up two victories over Altamont.

In the A game, Greenville was a 34-19 winner. Abendroth led Altamont with eight points.

In the B contest, Greenville was a 30-21 winner. Monk led Altamont with seven points.
