CHARLESTON -- Effingham picked up two close victories over Charleston in boys freshman/sophomore basketball action Monday evening.

The Hearts won the freshman contest 57-51. Charleston took a 10-9 opeinng quarter lead but the Hearts led 29-25 at halftime and 46-36 going into the final period. The Trojans came back with a 15-11 final period run but the Hearts held on.

Mason Hull was the lone player in double figures with 22 but 10 other players scored in the game.

In the sophomore contest, the Hearts captured a 59-56 victory. The Hearts trailed Charleston 9-6 after the opening quarter but edged out to a 23-22 halftime lead. EHS went into the final period ahead by six points then held off a final quarter challenge.

Trevor Kreke tallied 30 points for the Hearts, hitting eight field goals, which included four three-pointers, and was 10 of 14 at the line.
