EHS Drops Game To CHS, Area Girls Roundup

Effingham High School beat the Trojans last month in the Charleston Holiday Tournament but Monday evening was a different story. Charleston avenged its loss by downing the Hearts 57-46 in an Apollo Conference girls basketball contest at EHS Monday evening.
The Trojans took a 14-6 opening quarter lead and continued by outscoring the Hearts 14-11 in the second period for a 28-17 halftime lead. The Trojans had three double figure performers. Morgan Sherwood scored 21 points while Erin Story added 17 and Dakota Crowder 10. The Trojans are 5-1 in the conference, 18-2 overall.
Effingham was led by Jantzen Michael with 12 points while Maddy Field added 10.

At Louisville
Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City took a 14-12 opening quarter lead but North Clay (Louisville) came back with a 19-8 second period run and went on for a 54-48 non-conference victory.
Bible connected on nine field goals, including six three-pointers, and was six of six at the line for 30 points for the winners. Lovett chipped in with 10 points.
Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City was led by Morrison with 16 and Ward with 10.

Dieterich improved its overall record to 15-5 with a 66-48 non-conference win over Okaw Valley Monday evening.
The Movin' Maroons stepped out to an 18-7 opening quarter lead and never looked back. Four players scored in double figures for the Maroons. Kelsey Webb led the way with 19 points. Mallorie Vahling added 15 points and led in rebounds with 14, Courtney Flach had 14 points and Kallee Heuerman had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Flach led in assists with eight and steals with seven.

Neoga picked up its fifth straight victory andi mproved its record to 18-3 on the season with a 66-63 non-conference win over Pana Monday evening.
The Indians led 32-27 at halftime then had an 18-11 third period run to push ahead 50-38 going into the final quarter. Pana mounted a comeback with a 25-16 run only to fall short.
Four players scored in double figures for Neoga. EC Thies led the way with 20 points while Jaycie Roy added 15, Olivia Ott 14 and Madison Butler 11.

Flora had a big scoring opening quarter and went on to down Newton 54-40. The Wolves led 20-10 after the opening period and 32-18 at halftime.
Jones led the winners with 23 points while Bayles added 15 and Cox 10. Flora improves to 18-2. Newton was led by Kline with 12 points. The Eagles drop to 12-8 on the season. The Eagles are short-handed, playing without Richards and Frohning due to injuries.

The Vandals had a 16-8 opening quarter and a 22-2 third period. Meyer led the way witrh 23 points and Tinker added 13.
South Central was led by Hahn with 17 points. The Cougars drop to 5-11 overall.
