Altamont Wins Over Newton, S. Central Drops Loss

NEWTON -- Altamont's Klaiton Wolff knocked in five field goals, two from three-point range, and was nine of 10 at the line for 21 points in leading the Indians over Newton, 61-52 in non-conference boys basketball action Saturday.

Newton held a 16-12 first quarter lead but Altamont came back to lead 28-24 at halftime. Newton still was in the contest, pulling within 38-35 going into the final quarter. Altamont then put together an outstanding quarter with a 23-17 run for the 61-52 victory.

Also in double figures for the Indians was Armstrong with 17. Newton was led by Tim Weber with 20.

At Flora

Flora handed South Central a 76-38 loss in non-conference play Saturday.

The Wolves held a 31-21 halftime lead then had a 29-4 final period surge. Pearce scored 41 points for the winners while L. Smith added 10. The Wolves connected on 17 three-pointers. Pearce had 11 trifectas while Gocey, who finished with nine points, had three.

South Central was led by Brett Harmerier with 13 and Evan Langley with 10.
