Effingham St. Anthony split victories with Salem in junior high boys basketball competition Thursday evening.

The Bullpups won the seventh-grade contest 43-25. St.  Anthony led 18-16 at halftime then had a 25-9 second half surge. Dust scored 12 and Tingley 11.

In the eighth-grade game, Shelbyville edged the Bullpups 34-32. St. Anthony held a 7-2 first quarter lead but Shelbyville came back to knot the score at 12-12 at halftime. Shelbyville then had a 13-11 third period run and held off St. Anthony in the final quarter. Strullmeyer led St. Anthony with nine points.

At Effingham

Effingham picked up two victories over Altamont Thursday evening.

Effingham jumped out to a 17-8 first quarter lead and never looked back in capturing a 48-23 win over Altamont in seventh-grade play. Effingham was led by Cameron Kalber with nine points and Tate Niebrugge and Parker Siner chipped in with eight each. Sam Thompson led the team in rebounding with five and Kyle Pemberton had four steals. The Mustangs are 5-8.

In eighth-grade action, the Mustangs moved out to a 21-10 opening quarter lead then had a 19-2 second period run and went on for a 52-24 victory over Altamont.

Wolfe tallied 20 and Jackson 13 in the victory. Poland had three steals and Hagler and Wolfe two each. Wolfe and Lee led in rebounds with seven each.

Dieterich traveled to Effingham Sacred Heart and picked up a seventh-grade boys basketball win 37-20.

Dieterich was led by Derek Kuhl with eight and Dalton Will and Matthew Hunzinger with seven each. Dieterich is now 8-7 on the season.

At Strasburg

Teutopolis nabbed two victories over Stewardson-Strasburg in action Thursday evening.

The Wooden Booties won the seventh-grade contest 59-15. T-town held a 29-8 halftime lead. Probst and N. Hemmen scored 12 points each for the winners. Kirby led Stew-Stras with 11 as the squad dropped to 4-14.

In eighth-grade play, T-town was a 44-16 winner. T-town held a 30-5 halftime lead. Smith and Jo. Hardiek scored 10 points each. Stew-Stras, which drops to 1-13, was led by Burton with 14.

Jasper County won the seventh-grade encounter 43-19. Schafer tallied 13 points for the winners. Cumberland was led by Hayden with five points.

In eighth-grade action, Cumberland was a 27-22 winner. Hatfill scored 10 points for Cumberland. Conner Bierman scored 10 for Jasper County.
