The Hearts of Effingham played host to Effingham St. Anthony and edged the Bulldogs 39-35 in girls basketball action Tuesday evening.
EHS edged out to a 10-7 opening quarter lead. Steffen scored six points to head the Hearts in the right direction. EHS then had a 9-8 edge to lead 19-15 at halftime.
EHS continued its scoring with a 10-7 run in the third period as Jantzen Michael knocked down two baskets, one a three-pointer, and a free throw. In the final period, St. Anthony made a comeback bid, outscoring the Hearts 13-10 only to fall short.
Michael led the Hearts with 12 points. Megan Nuxoll led the Bulldogs with 13.
