St. A Girls Will Play For Seventh at Mattoon Tourney

MATTOON -- Effingham St. Anthony picked up a victory and suffered a loss in action at the Mattoon Girls Christmas  Tournament Saturday.

The Bulldogs claimed a 42-35 win over Decatur MacArthur. St. Anthony took a 21-16 halftime lead then continued to add on points in the second half.

Megan Nuxoll tallied 18 for the winners while Morgan Gardewine added nine.

The Bulldogs then had to turn around and play the very next game against Olney and fell to the Tigers 35-32. Olney stepped out to a 10-4 opening quarter lead and had an 11-4 third period run.

Nuxoll again led St. Anthony with 14 points.

In other Saturday games, Galesburg downed Sullivan 84-45, Salem won over Olney 51-45, Mattoon beat Vandalia 60-33, Sullivan bounced Decatur MacArthur 72-31, Salem edged Mattoon 66-62 and the final game went to Galesburg over Vandalia 76-49.
