MATTOON -- Effingham High School edged Mattoon in girls freshman/sophomore basketball action Friday evening.
The Hearts won 38-32. EHS held a 21-19 halftime lead and maintained that three-point lead going into the final quarter then outscored the Green Wave 13-9.
Taylor Conkling tallied 11 points for the Hearts while Riya Shah had nine.

At Vandalia
Effingham picked up both freshman and sophomore victories over Vandalia in boys competition Saturday.
In the freshman contest, the Hearts were 47-28 winners. Two players hit double digits for Effingham, Ryan Sandifer with 15 and Lucas Vasquez with 10.
In the sophomore game, Effingham bounced the Vandals 40-10. The Hearts held a 28-2 halftime lead. Harrison Smith scored 12 for the winners while Wyatt Keith added nine.
