St. Anthony, T-Town Claim Wins, Okaw Valley Tourney Opens Play

ARTHUR -- Effingham St. Anthony High School picked up a 44-38 girls basketball victory Saturday over Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond.
The Bulldogs edged out to an 11-10 opening quarter lead and led 23-20 at halftime. ALAH came back with an 11-9 third period run to pull within 32-31 going into the final quarter. St. Anthony then put together a 12-7 run for the win.
Megan Nuxoll, a 5-foot-9 senior, put together a 27 points contest to lead the Bulldogs. She had a double-double pulling down 19 rebounds along with her 27 points and had five steals. Morgan Gardewine led in assists with three. The Bulldogs are now 8-5 on the season.

At Teutopolis
Olney came calling at Teutopolis and went home with a 42-39 loss. The Wooden Shoes led 20-16 at halftime then had an 11-6 third period run to lead 31-22 going into the final quarter. They needed all those points as Olney came back with a 17-11 run but fell short.
Schmidt tallied 14 points for the Wooden Shoes.

Okaw Valley Tournament
The Okaw Valley Tournament got underway Saturday. In the opening contest Oakwood edged Altamont 41-37.
Oakwood held a 25-20 halftime lead. Altamont came back with a 12-10 third period run to pull within 35-32 going into the final quarter. Oakwood then had a 6-5 lead to pull out the victory.
Stone and Duckwitz led the Indians with nine points each.
In the second contest, Shelbyville/Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor tallied a 79-54 victory over LSA.
Shelbyville/SS/Windsor held a 46-24 halftime lead and never looked back. The winners had two big scorers in Carson with 33 and Schuler with 27.
In the fifth game of the day, Chrisman picked up a 42-25 win over Teutopolis Junior Varsity. Chrisman held a 24-8 halftime lead. Warner led the way with 11 points.
T-town was led by Michaels with 12 points.
In other scores Saturday, Heyworth beat Blue Ridge 53-18, Okaw Valley downed Oakwood 42-33 and Heyworth won over Tri-County 55-50.
Today's schedule includes Altamont against LSA at 10 a.m., Okaw Valley taking on Shelbyville/Stew-Stras/Windsor at 11:30, the winner of game seven against Tri-County at 1:30 p.m., Teutopolis Junior Varsity against Blue Ridge at 3 p.m., Heyworth taking on Chrisman at 4:30 and Oakwood facing the winner of Game 10 at 6:30. The tournament comes to a close Tuesday.
