Cowden-Herrick, Ramsey Open St. Elmo Tournament With Wins

Ramsey and Cowden-Herrick opened the 55th Annual St. Elmo Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament with victories Tuesday evening.

Ramsey stepped out to a 20-8 opening quarter lead then had to fight off a second half challenge by St. Elmo/Brownstown for the win in the opening game.

Ramsey led 33-23 at halftime but only held a one point lead going into the final period after a fruious Eagles rally in the third quarter led by Oberlink with three trifectas.

Black scored 14 and Aderman 10 for the winners. St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by B. Oberlink with 15 and K. Kroll with 10.

In the second contest, Cowden-Herrick defeated Beecher City 52-42. The Hornets took a 16-9 opening quarter lead and led 28-24 at halftime. The Hornets had a 17-10 third quarter run.

Burrus connected on nine field goals, including three trifectas and was two of two at the line for 23 points. Also in double figures was Pasley with 12.

Beecher City was led by Rexroad with 13.

The tournament continues tonight as Altamont takes on South Central at 6:15 followed by Okaw Valley against  Mulberry Grove around 7:45.
