BROWNSTOWN -- In consolation bracket action at the National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday evening, Dieterich and St. Elmo/Brownstown picked up wins.

Dieterich claimed a 38-27 victory over Effingham Sacred Heart in the first game. Dieterich jumped out to a 22-5 first half lead and never looked back. Collin Hartke tallied 12 for the winners. Sacred Heart was led by Noah Tegeler with 10.

In the second contest, St. Elmo/Brownstown defeated Stewardson-Strasburg 35-14. SEB led 12-8 at halftime then had a 23-6 second half run. McWhorter led with eight points.

Stew-Stras was led by Aaron Kirby with eight.

The tournament comes to a close tonight as Dieterich faces St. Elmo/Brownstown at 5:30 for the consolation championship while Neoga will face Windsor at 6:45 for third place and Altamont takes on Sigel St. Michael at 8 for the championship.

At Mattoon

The Effingham eighth-graders edged Mattoon 49-46 in double overtime. The Mustangs trailed 11-10 after the opening quarter but came back to take a 25-19 halftime lead. Mattoon then outscored Effingham 14-9 in the third quarter and tied the score at 37-37 sending the game into overtime.

Both scored four points in the first overtime. In the second overtime period the score was tied at 46-46 when Landon Wolfe connected on a 75 foot shot at the buzzer giving the Mustangs the win.

Wolfe finished with a whopping 32 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Poland had three steals and Rich added seven boards.

In the seventh-grade game, Mattoon claimed a 38-26 win. The middle two quarters did the Mustangs in as Mattoon outscored Effingham 23-8.

Kyle Nohren led in scoring with seven points.

At St. Anthony

St. Anthony scored in the 30s and claimed two victories over Charleston Thursday evening.

In seventh-grade play, St. Anthony won 39-20. Dust led the way with 14 points while Hoene and Tingley scored 10 points each for the Bullpups.

In the eighth-grade game, St. Anthony was a 38-23 winner. Strullmeyer scored 14 and Brandenburger 12.

At Altamont

Newton St. Thomas split wins with Altamont Lutheran.

St. Thomas won the seventh-grade game 41-29. In eighth-grade action, Altamont Lutheran captured a 58-42 win.
