St. Anthony Downs Beecher City, 44-19 Tuesday Night

The St. Anthony Bulldogs won their National Trail Conference opener Tuesday night, defeating the Beecher City Eagles 44-19 at Beecher City. The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.  

The scoring started slowly before foul troubles and turnovers led to a Bulldogs run that left them up 14-4 after one quarter and 30-8 at halftime.

St. Anthony's recent shooting problems continued, though, as the Bulldogs made just 16 of 59 shots, for 27%. Beecher City took just 28 shots due to their 24 turnovers and made nine of them for 32%. The Eagles also could not get the lid off the basket at the foul line, making just one of 12 attempts. Beecher City missed all five of its three-point attempts, but did grab 22 rebounds.

The Bulldogs made 11 of 15 foul shots, turned the ball over 14 times and grabbed 37 rebounds. St. Anthony made just one of 14 three-point shots.

Andrew Gardewine led St. Anthony with 10 points. Also for the Bulldogs: Derek Rios nine with six rebounds, James Kabbes six, Nick Grunloh six, Jeff Niebrugge four, Braden Puckett four, Kyle Hartke three, and Zach Gardewine two. Grunloh led in rebounds with seven, Puckett had five, Hartke and Andrew Gardewine each had four, Zach Gardewine and Niebrugge each had three, Kabbes and Drew Gibson two each, and Kyle Bourgeois one.

Jackson Bales led Beecher City with six points, Daniel Harder had five points with eight rebounds, and Austin Rexroad and Brady Randall each scored four points.

St. Anthony is back to .500 at 3-3 on the season, snapping a three-game losing streak in the process, while Beecher City slipped to 1-2 on the young season.

St. Anthony won the JV game, 56-40. Alex Beesley led St. Anthony with 16 points while Drew Gibson scored 14 points. Andrew Moeller led Beecher City with 16 points while Jake Wills scored 10 points
