BROWNSTOWN -- Four games were contested Saturday in the National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament.
In the opening contest, Dieterich downed Beecher City 40-21. Dieterich took a 17-14 halftime lead then held Beecher City scoreless in the third quarter to push ahead 30-14 and go on for a 40-21 victory.
Cole Niebrugge led the winners with nine points. Beecher City was led by Blaise Lowry with seven.
In the second game, Stewardson-Strasburg downed Cowden-Herrick 39-33. Stew-Stras jumped out to a 23-9 halftime lead then held off Cowden-Herrick in the second half.
Stew-Stras' Aaron Kirby scored 27 for the winners. Taylor led Cowden-Herrick with 14 while Robertson added 10.
In the third contest, Neoga beat Effingham Sacred Heart 35-25. Johnson tallied 10 for the winners, seven coming in the second period 16-2 run.
Sacred Heart was led by Conkling with eight points.
In the final game Saturday, Windsor edged St. Elmo/Brownstown 27-25. Windsor held a 13-10 first half lead and led 21-16 going into the final quarter. St. Elmo/Brownstown came back with a 9-6 final period surge but fell short.
LeCrone led the winners with 12 points. McWhorter led St. Elmo/Brownstown with 10.
The tournament continues Tuesday with Altamont facing Dieterich at 6:15 p.m. followed by Sigel St. Michael against Cowden-Herrick at 7:30.

At Mattoon
Effingham St. Anthony Junior High School captured two B victories over Mattoon in boys basketball action Saturday.
In the seventh-grade contest, the Bullpups edged Mattoon 26-24. St.Anthony held the two-point lead in the opening quarter then fought off Mattoon in the final period.
Heuerman tallied nine for the winners while Fitzgerald added eight.
In eighth-grade action, St. Anthony stepped out to an 18-6 opening quarter lead and went on for a 47-32 win.
Quandt scored 14 for the Bullpups while Wortman tallied 11, Mendella 10 and B. Niebrugge 10.

In an eighth-grade B game Friday, Teutopolis downed Effingham 25-13. T-town held an 8-7 halftime lead then had a 17-6 second half run.
Deters scored eight for the winners. Poland led the Mustangs with five.
