Sigel St. Michael, Effingham Headed to 8th Grade Girls Sectionals

The battle of two local schools went to Sigel St. Michael and another local school won over an opponent playing at home to decide the final two eighth grade girls basketball regionals involving area teams.

Sigel St. Michael defeated Sacred Heart, 29-26 to capture the 8-1A Regional at Sacred Heart. Sadie Bueker scored 13 points to lead the Sharpshooters. Also for St. Michael: McWhorter 7, Buening 3, H. Bueker 3, Flach 2, Niebrugge 1.

Natalie Carie scored 17 points to lead Sacred Heart. Also for the Shamrocks: Webster 7 and Stock 2.

Sigel St. Michael advances to 8-1A Sectional action at Pana Sacred Heart School on Wednesday at 6:30pm.

Meanwhile, Effingham went to Charleston Middle School and defeated Charleston, 25-12, to win the 8-4A Regional.

Effingham held Charleston to three points in the second half in posting the win. The Mustangs improved to 19-1 on the season with the victory. Leading Effingham was Fearday with nine and Buscher with eight.

Effingham advances to the 8-4A Sectional on Wednesday at 6:30pm and they'll play at home. Effingham Junior High School is hosting the sectional. Effingham will play Taylorville, 12-10 on the season after winning the Chatham Glenwood Regional.
