OBLONG -- Effingham St. Anthony captured the championship of the Class 8-2A Oblong Girls Basketball Regional Thursday evening.

The Bullpups downed host Oblong 40-23. St. Anthony took a 16-10 halftime lead then couldn't be stopped in the second half.

Meg Richards tallied 17 for the winners. Dart led Oblong with 10. St. Anthony now advances to its own sectional where it will meet Altamont Wednesday, December 10 at 6:30 p.m.

At Charleston

Effingham moved into the champoinship game of the Class 8-4A Charleston Regional with a victory over Mattoon, 39-11.

The Mustangs stepped out to an 8-1 opening quarter lead and led 17-6 at halftime. The Mustangs then ran off a 22-5 second half over Mattoon.

Fox tallied 11 to lead the Mustangs while Fearday had nine and Buscher eight. Effingham improves to 18-1.

In the second contest, Charleston was a 26-19 winner over Tolono Unity.

Effingham faces Charleston tonight at 6 for the regional championship.

At Effingham

Sigel St. Michael and Effingham Sacred Heart will square off for the Class 8-1A Sacred Heart Regional championship tonight after picking up victories Thursday.

Sigel St. Michael defeated Martinsville 26-12. The Sharpshooters held a 14-10 first half lead then moved into high gear with a 9-0 third quarter surge.

S. Bueker led the winners with 16 points. Truelove led Martinsville with nine.

In the second contest, Sacred Heart downed Dieterich 36-26. The Shamrocks had a 20-13 first half lead and outscored Dieterich 9-2 in the third period.

Carie and Webster scored in double figures for the winners. Carie tallied 12 and Webster 10. Dieterich was led by Robards with nine.

Sacred Heart faces St. Michael tonight for the title at 6.

At Strasburg

Altamont captured the championship of the Class 8-2A Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor Regional Thursday evening.

Altamont stepped out to a big 16-4 first half lead and never looked back over Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor for a 25-13 win.

Schultz scored 12 while Mette had nine for the winners. K. Davis led Stew-Stras/Windsor with nine. Stew-Stras/Windsor ends the season with a 16-7 record.

Altamont advances to face St. Anthony at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 10 at the St. Anthony Sectional.

At Atwood

Teutopolis claimed the championship of the Class 8-3A Arthur Regional. T-town took a 9-3 first half lead and outscored Cumberland 12-2 in the final period for a 28-13 victory.

Savannah Grimes and Emma Deters scored seven points each for the winners. T-town improves to 17-7 and will now advance to its own sectional Wednesday, December 10 at 6:30 p.m. to face Casey-Westfield.

Casey-Westfield picked up the victory of its own regional Thursday evening. The host squad edged Red Hill (Bridgeport) 21-20.

Casey-Westfield advances to the Teutopolis Sectional Wednesday, December 10 to face T-town at 6:30 p.m.
