At Brownstown

Brownstown/St. Elmo picked up a 42-30 National Trail Conference victory over South Central Monday evening.

SEB stepped out to a 17-6 opening quarter lead and led 28-11 at halftime. The Cougars came back with a 19-14 second half lead but couldn't overcome the first half.

SEB was led by Baron with 12 points and Fitch with eight. South Central was led by Abby Hahn with 15 and Keely Smith with eight.

"You could tell we had not played in 10 days," said South Central Coach Gary Kapper. "Everything that could have gone wrong did in the first half. We were down 17 at halftime but battled back to within 11 a couple times in the second half. We just couldn't get some shots to fall to get it under 10 points. The girls came out the second half being more aggressive and worked hard. They never quit and battled until the end. Tonight we gave them too many offensive rebounds for points. That is one thing we have to work on. We will learn from this game and work to improve. We have a quick turnaround as we have to play Sandoval Tuesday night."

South Central drops to 1-1 in the conference, 2-1 overall.
