GIRLS BASKETBALL

Class 8-2A Oblong Regional

North Clay (Louisville) and Edwards County (Albion) advanced in the Oblong Regional with victories Monday evening.

North Clay defeated Palestine 24-15 in the opening game. Edwards County then beat Neoga 42-18 in the second contest.

North Clay advances to face Effingham St. Anthony at 6 p.m today followed by Edwards County taking on Oblong at 7:15 p.m. The winners will advance to the championship Thursday.

 

Class 8-2A Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor Regional

Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick picked up the opening game victory by edging South Central 29-27. South Central took a 9-8 opening quarter lead but trailed 18-15 at halftime. South Central came back with a 9-5 third period run to pull ahead 24-23. BCCH then had a 6-3 run to pull out the victory.

Endsley led the winners with 11 points. Culver led South Central with 17.

In the second contest, Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor broke open a close game with a 13-0 second period run and downed Okaw Valley 39-11.

Davis and Schlechte were the one-two scoring punch for the winners with 11 points each. Stew-Stras/Windsor improves to 15-6.

Nokomis ended Brownstown/St. Elmo's season in the final game of the evening, 37-30. Nokomis held BSE scoreless in the first quarter for an 11-0 run and held on for the victory.

BSE was led by Wilhour with 17 points.

Tonight's games include Altamont against Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick at 6 p.m. followed by Stew-Stras/Windsor against Nokomis at 7:15.

Class 8-3A Arthur Regional

Sullivan bounced Shelbyville Moulton 40-26 in opening round play at the Arthur Regional.

Sullivan advances to face Teutopolis tonight at 6 followed by Cumberland facing Arthur at 7:15.

 

Class 8-3A Casey-Westfield Regional

Robinson Nuttall and Casey-Westfield advanced in this regional with victories Monday evening.

Robinson Nuttall won over Lawrenceville Parkview 31-15. Casey-Westfield was a 37-14 winner over Marshall.

Robinson Nuttall will now face Red Hill (Bridgeport) at 6 tonight followed by Jasper County meeting Casey-Westfield at 7:15.

 

In Other Regionals Tonight:

In opening round play of the Class 8-1A Effingham Sacred Heart Regional, Martinsville faces Cisne at 6 p.m. The winner will meet Sigel St. Michael at 6 p.m. Thursday. The second contest Thursday has Effingham Sacred Heart up against Dieterich at 7:15.

In the Class 8-4A Charleston Regional, Mount Zion faces Mattoon at 6 p.m. The winner advances to take on Effingham at 6 p.m. Thursday. In the second contest, Charleston meets Tolono Unity at 7:15.
