Neoga Wins CHBC Tourney Title, T-town Fourth at Salem

BEECHER CITY -- Neoga High School captured the championship of the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Girls Round Robin Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament Saturday.
The Indians picked up two victories to claim the title with a perfect 5-0 record. Neoga bounced host CHBC 63-28. The Indians took a 27-17 halftime lead then had a 36-11 second half run.
EC Thies tallied 28 for the winners while Madison Butler added 15 and Jaycie Roy 11. CHBC was led by Jensyn Morrison with 19.
In the second contest, Brownstown/St. Elmo edged North Clay (Louisville) 39-37. BSE was led by Kyrstyn Fitch and Morgan Brown with nine each. North Clay was led by Tylor Jones with 14.
The third game went to Dieterich over Ramsey 51-42. The Movin' Maroons held a 31-19 first half lead and never looked back. Kelsey Webb scored 17 for the winners while Courtney Flach added 13.
Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City then picked up its lone win of the tournament by edging Brownstown/St. Elmo 38-33. Morrison scored 26 for the winners. The score was knotted at 16-16 at halftime. CHBC then took a 28-26 third quarter lead and outscored BSE 12-5 in the final quarter.
Fitch led BSE with 10 points.
North Clay defeated Ramsey 45-44. The Cardinals led by 25-18 at halftime and led 38-24 going into the final quarter. Ramsey rallied with a 20-7 run and almost pulled out the victory.
Mikayla Stanfield tallied 14 and Carrasan Bible 10 for the winners. Kayla Zimmerman led Ramsey with 20.
Neoga then squared off against Dieterich and the two teams came in undefeated and playing for the championship. Neoga established itself early with a 15-1 opening quarter run and led 25-19 at halftime. Neoga then outscored Dieterich 35-21 in the second half.
Thies led the way with 23 points while Roy added 20 and Butler 15 for the winners. Dieteirch had one player in double figures, Flach with 14.
Named to the All-Tournament Team were Courtney Flach (Dieterich) as MVP, Madison Butler (Neoga), EC Thies (Neoga), Kayla Zimmerman (Ramsey), Mallorie Vahling (Dieterich), Jensyn Morrison (CHBC), Morgan Brown (BSE) and Jaycie Roy (Neoga).

At Salem
Teutopolis finished in fourth place at the 14th Annual Salem Wildcat Thanksgiving Tournament.
In Saturday action, host Salem edged the Wooden Shoes 41-35. T-town held a 10-5 opening quarter lead and led 18-16 at halftime. The Wildcats then roared back with a 19-5 third quarter run and held on for the victory.
Kailey Beer and Dearria Watson tallied 10 points each for the Wildcats. T-town was led by Chelsey Hardiek and Michell Schmidt with 11 each.
In the third-place contest, Bethalto Civic Memorial edged T-town 48-44. Civic Memorial held a 16-9 opening quarter lead but T-town rallied to tie the score at 22-22 at halftime. Bethalto then had a 15-5 third period run to pull ahead 33-27 going into the final period. t-town outscored the winners 17-15 in the final quarter but time ran out.
Reagan Drees led the Shoes with 11 points.
Highland captured the championship with a 51-40 win over host Salem.
