C'land, M. Grove Tournaments, Boys Roundup

TOLEDO -- Four games were contested again at the Cumberland Boys Turkey Basketball Tournament Tuesday evening.

In games at the high school Cumberland downed Oblong 55-46 while Newton won over Neoga 50-40. In games at the middle school, Chrisman defeated Palestine/Hutsonville 52-33 and Dieterich downed Charleston 58-44.

The tournament lays off for two days before resuming Friday with eight games on tap and finishes out Saturday.

Cumberland 55, Oblong 46

The host Pirates stepped out to a 30-15 halftime lead and had a 25-21 second half run. Shaon tallied six baskets in the opening quarter and scored 11 points by halftime. He finished with 16 points to lead along with Cutts who knocked in four three-pointers and four of four at the line for 16 points.

In game six, Chrisman won over Palestine/Hutsonville 52-33. Chrisman led 28-15 at halftime and never looked back. T. Owen led with 18 while J. Parker added 17 and T. Langer 13.

In game seven, Newton downed Neoga 50-40. The Eagles edged out to an 8-6 lead and led 25-22 at halftime. Newton held a 35-31 lead going into the final period then had a 15-9 run.

Brock Mammoser led the way with 30 points for the Eagles. He scored a basket in the opening quarter then ripped off 11 in the third period and had eight in the final quarter.

Neoga was led by Luke Baker and Corey Kersey with 13 points each.

In the eighth game, Feldhake tallied 20 and Bohnhoff 12 in leading Dieterich past Charleston 58-44. The Maroons trailed Charleston 9-4 after the opening quarter and 23-16 at halftime. Dieterich came roaring back with a 17-9 third period run then outscored the Trojans 25-12 in the final quarter.

Charleston was led by Strader with 14 and McInerney with 11.

At Mulberry Grove

Three games were contested Tuesday evening in the Mulberry Grove Turkey Tournament.

In the opening contest, Cowden-Herrick bounced Ramsey 63-32. The Hornets stepped out to a 22-9 opening quarter lead and led 37-11 at halftime. C-H continued the barrage with a 21-9 third period surge.

Colton Burris, a senior, tallied 27 points while sophomore Konner Blackerby scored 11. Dylan Barnes finished with 12 rebounds and two assists. Burrus led in steals with three. Carson Lorton had two blocked shots.

In the second contest, this one went two overtimes before Sandoval pulled out a 95-90 win over Odin.

Patoka downed Mulberry Grove 79-58 in the final game of the evening.

The tournament continues tonight as Ramsey faces Odin at 5:15, Sandoval meets Patoka a 6:45 and Cowden-Herrick goes against Mulberry Grove at 8:15.

At Farina

South Central picked up a 67-61 non-conference regular season victory over Vandalia Tuesday evening.

The Cougars edged out to a 15-12 opening quarter lead and led 40-25 at halftime. Vandalia came back with a 16-7 third period run and the two teams both tallied 20 points in the final quarter.

Langley scored 15 for the winners while Harmerier and Powless added 10 each.

At St. Elmo

North Clay (Louisville) came calling for a non-conference contest and edged St. Elmo/Brownstown 37-34.

St. Elmo/Brownstown took a 12-11 opening quarter lead and led 23-19 at halftime. The Cardinals then had a 10-3 third period run to push ahead 29-26 going into the final quarter and held on for the victory.

Hartsey tallied 14 for the winners. St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Maxey with 12.
