Effingham Junior High School played host to Mattoon in boys basketball B competition Tuesday evening and picked up two victories.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade contest 53-12. The Mustangs took a 27-7 first half lead. Aiden Beck and Kyle Pemberton led in scoring with nine points each. Pemberton and Clayton Cramsey led the team in rebounding with 12 and eight respectively. Luke Spencer was the leader in steals with five.

In eighth-grade action, Effingham downed Mattoon 36-28. Rich tallied 18 points for the Mustangs and pulled down 10 rebounds. Ballman and Allen had four steals each. Kiser had three rebounds.

At Vandalia

Effingham St. Anthony and Vandalia split victories Tuesday evening.

Vandalia was a 39-28 winner in sevneth-grade competition. Vandalia held a 24-16 halftime lead then had a 15-12 second half.

St. Anthonyw was led by Hoene with nine points.

In the eighth-grade contest, St. Anthony held a 19-12 halftime lead then put on the scoring in the third period with a 14-4 run.

Strullmyer tallied 16 points for the winners while Brandenburger chipped in with eight.

At Strasburg

Stewardson-Strasburg and Cowden-Herrick were both winners in National Trail Conference play Tuesday evening.

Stew-Stras won the seventh-grade contest 33-23 to improve to 2-2 in the conference, 3-5 overall. Kirby led the way for the winners with 20 points. Taylor tallied 15 for Cowden-Herrick.

In the eighth-grade contest, Cowden-Herrick was a 44-34 winner. C-H took an 18-10 first half lead. D. Burk led the winners with 30 points. Burton tallied 14 and Tabbert 13 for Stew-Stras. The Stars drop to 0-4 in the conference, 1-7 overall.

At Altamont

Salem Franklin Park came calling and downed Altamont in both games Tuesday evening.

In the seventh-grade game, Salem Franklin Park edged Altamont 41-39. The two teams were tied after one quarter and Franklin Park edged out to a 27-25 halftime lead. Altamont came back to tie the score at 32-32 going into the final period. Salem then had a 9-7 run for the win.

Altamont was led by Kollmann with 10 and Hill with nine points.

Iin the eighth-grade contest, Franklin Park was a 47-32 winner. Franklin Park stepped out to a 19-7 opening half lead. In the second half, Altamont played Franklin Park about even.

Altamont was led by Biggs with 12 points.

Teutopolis and Robinson Nuttall split victories. T-town was a 48-36 winner in the seventh-grade contest. T-town took a 25-13 halftime lead. Mitch Hardiek scored 15 and Brady McMahon 13 for the winners.

In the eighth-grade game, Robinson Nuttall picked up a 36-28 victory. T-town held a 19-15 halftime lead. Nuttall came back with a 21-9 second half run.

Dawson Smith led T-town with 13 points while Josh Hardiek scored 12.

At Newton

Jasper County tallied two wins over Sigel St. Michael Tuesday evening.

Jasper County won the seventh-grade game 32-26. Tharp and Cox scored 10 points each for the winners. Fearday led St. Michael with 10.

In the eighth-grade game, Jasper County was a 33-30 winner. Conner Bierman scored 17 points for the winners. Hoene scored 12 and Cornell 10 for St. Michael.
