TOLEDO -- Four games were on tap as the Cumberland Boys Basketball Thanksgiving Tournament got underway Monday evening.

In the opener, Oblong edged Newton 56-50. Oblong stepped out to a 21-17 opening quarter lead on the Eagles. Laino tallied 11 points while Nayhew scored six. Newton came roaring back with a 15-7 second period run to lead 32-28 at halftime. In that run, Collin Harris knocked in three trifectas.

Oblong then came back with a 12-5 third period run to lead 40-37 going into the final quarter then had a 16-13 edge to pull out the win.

Newton was led by Brock Mammoser with 17 points while Harris finished with nine.

In the second contest, Dieterich claimed a 58-39 win over Hutsonville/Palestine. Dieterich took a 26-12 halftime lead and never looked back.

Bohnhoff tallied 24 points for the winners. He knocked in 10 field goals, which included three trifectas, and connected on a free throw. Mellendorf, L. Niemerg and Aherin scored seven points each.

In the third contest, Cumberland edged Neoga 57-55. The Pirates edged out to an 11-10 opening quarter lead but Neoga came back to lead 25-24 at halftime. The Indians held a 43-40 lead going into the final quarter when Cumberland came back with a 17-12 run to pull out the one-point victory.

Sheen led the Pirates with 17 points while Brumleve scored 10. Neoga was led by Luke Baker with 16 and Trevor Moore with 11.

The final game went to Chrisman in a close 58-56 win over Charleston.

Mulberry Grove Turkey Tournament

Odin handed Cowden-Herrick an 84-64 loss in the first game of the Mulberry Grove Turkey Tournament Monday evening.

Odin edged out to a 22-19 opening quarter lead and led 34-33 at halftime. The Eagles then led 53-49 going into the final period and had a 31-15 run.

Three players hit double digits for C-H. Trey Pasley tallied 18 while Konner Blackerby chipped in with 16 and Colton Burrus added 15. Dylan Barnes led in rebounds with nine while Kyle Black added seven and Burrus and Pasley had six each.

In the other contests, Ramsey edged Patoka 56-54 and Mulberry Grove downed Sandoval 64-57.
