Effingham St. Anthony Junior High School claimed two victories in girls basketball competition Tuesday.

The Bullpups defeated Casey-Westfield Roosevelt 23-11 in seventh-grade action. The Bullpups took a 7-3 halftime lead then took off with a 10-5 third period run. Taylor Beesley led the way with nine points. St. Anthony improved to 12-5.

In the eighth-grade contest, St. Anthony claimed a 36-10 win. St. Anthony led 15-6 at halftime then had a 12-2 third period run. In even scoring, the Bullpups were led by Shae Kinkelaar and Meg Richards with nine each.

The Bullpups improved their record to 14-3 on the season.

At Effingham

Effingham and Altamont split victories Tuesday evening. Altamont claimed the seventh-grade game 23-18.

Effingham edged out to an 8-7 opening quarter lead but couldn't score in the second period as Altamont pushed ahead 13-8. The two teams played to a 10-10 second half.

Runge led the winners with six points while Guse added five. Effingham was led by Martin with six as the Mustangs drop to 6-9.

In eighth-grade competition, Effingham claimed a 38-19 win to improve to 14-1.

Weis and Buscher provided the one-two scoring punch with 16 and 10 points respectively. Altamont was led by Mette with eight.

At Ramsey

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor was a victor in both contests. SS/Windsor won the seventh-grade game 18-4 to improve to 6-11.

Hayes tallied eight for the winners.

In eighth-grade competition, Stew-Stras/Windsor held a 20-3 halftime lead and went on for a 41-8 win.

Schlechte scored 20 while Tabbert chipped in with 11 for the winners who are now 12-6 on the season.

At Shelbyville

Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick handed Shelbyville two losses Tuesday evening.

BCCH was a 37-23 winner in seventh-grade action. The two squads were tied at 12-12 at halftime and Shelbyville held a 19-18 third quarter lead before BCCH broke loose with a 19-4 final period run.

Lauren Wojcik connected on seven field goals and three of four at the free throw line for 17 points for the winners. Jaelyn Robertson tallied 10. BCCH is now 10-6 on the season.

In the eighth-grade contest, BCCH held off a final quarter challenge to pull out a 28-26 victory. BCCH took a 9-3 opening quarter lead and led 12-7 at halftime. BCCH led 20-13 going into the final quarter when Shelbyville mounted a 13-8 final quarter comeback only to fall short.

Grace Smith scored seven for the winners who are now 9-8 overall.
