Altamont Wins NTC Eighth-Grade Girls Tourney

Altamont captured the championship of the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament Saturday.

Altamont downed Sigel St. Michael in the title contest 23-14. Altamont led 10-4 at halftime and then held off St. Michael 13-10 in the second half. Leah Mayhaus tallied seven and Joanna Schultz six for the winners.

St. Michael was led by Sadie Bueker with eight.

In the third place game, Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor downed Brownstown/St. Elmo 42-8. Stew-Stras/Windsor took a 21-8 halftime lead and never looked back. Megan Schlechte tallied 18 for the winners.

Claire Wilhour led B/SE with four.

The consolation championship went to Sacred Heart over Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 24-19. The Shamrocks held an 18-14 first half lead then had a slight 6-5 second half edge. Natalie Carie tallied 10 for the winners. Tabitha Endsley scored 10 for BCCH.

In Friday action, Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick beat Dieterich 36-23. Altramont was a 24-11 winner over Brownstown/St. Elmo and St. Michael defeated Stew-Stras/Windsor 22-18.
