Sabres Owner Agrees To Purchase Bills

Buffalo Sabres owner Terry Pegula and his wife Kim reached an agreement to purchase the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday. The Bills said the Wilson family had reached a definitive agreement with the Pegula family, which transfers all interest in the Bills franchise to the Pegulas. The parties intend to submit the agreement for approval by the NFL owners at their meeting in New York City on Oct. 8. A Buffalo newspaper reported that the final sale price is believed to be in the neighborhood of $1.1 billion. The Pegulas were seen as the bidders most likely to keep the Bills in Western New York. Real estate mogul Donald Trump and a group fronted by rock star Jon Bon Jovi also submitted bids.

Bruce Levenson Sells Controlling Interest of Hawks

A chain of events involving general manager Danny Ferry led to Atlanta Hawks majority owner Bruce Levenson  selling his controlling interest in the franchise. Levenson made the shocking announcement Sunday in the wake of a racially insensitive email he wrote two years ago about the team's struggle to attract fans and sponsors from the white community. The pieces to the puzzle have started to come together since Sunday. In a letter obtained by Atlanta TV station WSB, dated June 12, Hawks co-owner Michael Gearon Jr. writes to Levenson about a racist statement made by Ferry when discussing an unnamed free agent. The player was Luol Deng, who was born in South Sudan, according to sources. Deng ended up signing with the Miami Heat. Gearon wanted Levenson to either ask for Ferry's resignation or fire him.
