UConn Crushes Notre Dame, Captures Ninth Title
(Nashville, TN) -- Connecticut cruised to a 79-58 win over Notre Dame to win its ninth NCAA championship in women's basketball on Tuesday from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Breanna Stewart scored 21 points with nine rebounds to lead the Lady Huskies, who are back-to-back champs after going 40-0. Stefanie Dolson added 17 points with 16 rebounds and seven assists for UConn, which paired with the men's team to sweep the basketball titles for a second time after doing so in 2004. Connecticut is the only school to accomplish the feat. Kayla McBride had 21 points to lead the way for the Fighting Irish, who end the season at 37-1.
