Caitlin Kaufman Just Misses Advancing to Three-Point Final

Effingham High School's Caitlin Kaufman just missed advancing to the finals of the Country Financial Three-Point Showdown at the Class 3A State Basketball Tournament Thursday evening at Redbird Arena in Normal.

Kaufman competed in Group 1 and connected on seven three-pointers in the opening round. She finished in a tie for fourth place with six other competitors. In the Shootout she hit six of 10 shots. Amy Majercik of Johnsburg connected on six in the shootout to tie Kaufman but both players were then beaten out by the final shooter, Mariah Hedges of Canton who hit seven.

Advancing were Hedges, Bailey Gilbert of Sycamore, Emma Heisler of Morton and Kelsey Walsberg of Pontiac. Walsberg hit 10, Gilbert eight, Heisler nine and Hedges seven and then seven in the shootout.

Those four players will now compete for Queen of the Hill Friday at 1:45 p.m. at Redbird Arena in Normal.
