Cubs Sign RP Veras

(Chicago, IL) -- The Chicago Cubs have signed reliever Jose Veras. ESPN Deportes reports the deal to be for one season and worth $4-million with an option for a second season worth $5.5-million. Veras pitched in 42 games with Houston and 25 games with Detroit last season. He had a combined 21 saves.

Cardinals Likely Done With Offseason Shopping

(St. Louis, MO) -- The St. Louis Cardinals are likely set for the 2014 season. Cards General Manager John Mozeliak called the organization's offseason activity "short" and "quick."  St. Louis recently signed second baseman Mark Ellis to a one-year contract and recently struck a deal with the Angels to acquire center fielder Peter Bourjos. Mozeliak also signed free agent short stop Jhonny Peralta.
