Beltran Declines Cardinals Qualifying Offer
(St. Louis, MO) -- Outfielder Carlos Beltran declined the Cardinals one-year, $14-million qualifying offer. Beltran is an unrestricted free agent, but St. Louis will get a draft pick if he signs with another team. The Cards can still negotiate a deal to bring Beltran back.
Cardinals pitcher Shelby Miller finished third in the National League Rookie of the Year voting. The winner of the award was Marlins starter Jose Fernandez. Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig came in second. Miller was 15-9 with a 3.06 ERA this season.
Cubs Have Interest In Japanese Star Tanaka
(Orlando, FL) -- The Cubs are looking overseas for talent. General manager Jed Hoyer says the team has interest in acquiring Japanese star Masahiro Tanaka. The right-hander went 24-0 for Tohoku Rakuten this season in the Nippon Professional Baseball League. The Yankees and Dodgers are also reportedly interested.
Myers, Fernandez Capture MLB's Rookie Honors
Rays outfielder Wil Myers and Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez are being honored as baseball's top rookies. Myers beat teammate Chris Archer and the Tigers' Jose Iglesias for the AL Rookie of the Year. Fernandez held off the Dodgers' Yasiel Puig and Cardinals' Shelby Miller to win the NL Rookie of the Year.
Braves To Move Out Of Downtown Atlanta
(Atlanta, GA) -- The Atlanta Braves are moving out of Atlanta and into the suburbs. Braves President John Schuerholz says a new stadium will be built in Cobb County near the intersection of I-285 and I-75. Scheurholz says Turner Field needs million of dollars in upgrades, but it is also in a bad location.
