La Russa On Hall Of Fame Ballot
(St. Louis, MO) -- Former Cardinals manager Tony La Russa is one of 12 candidates on the Expansion Era ballot for election to the baseball Hall of Fame. Voting by a 16-member blue-ribbon panel will take place at the Winter Meetings in Orlando, Florida on December 8. If La Russa can garner 75-percent of the votes cast, he will be inducted into the Hall of Fame next July in Cooperstown.
Sox Don't Extend Qualifying Offers To Konerko, Floyd
(Chicago, IL) -- The White Sox will not extend qualifying offers to free agents Paul Konerko or Gavin Floyd Monday. Teams that extend a qualifying offer can receive a draft pick if the player signs elsewhere. Konerko is reportedly contemplating retirement while Floyd could be a top arm on the market.
Yankees' Rivera, Pirates' Liriano Win Comeback PoY Awards
(New York, NY) -- New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera and Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Francisco Liriano have been named the Comeback Players of the Year. Rivera came back from a torn ACL that sidelined him for most of the 2012 season. The 43-year-old finishes his career with an MLB-record 652 saves.
