Cards Beltran, Carpenter File For Free Agency
(St. Louis, MO) -- Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran and former ace Chris Carpenter filed for free agency on the first day of the offseason. Carpenter expects to retire. Beltran has discussed the possibility of going to the American League where his career could be extended by the designated hitter. The switch hitting Beltran led the Cardinals with 15 of their 50 RBI this postseason.
Red Sox Parade Set For Saturday
(Boston, MA) -- The city of Boston is ready to celebrate its latest World Series title with a parade. A victory parade will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. after the Red Sox beat the Cardinals Wednesday night to clinch their third World Series title since 2004 and the eighth championship in franchise history. The parade will begin at Fenway Park and head down Boylston Street to the Museum of Science.
Nationals Officially Name Williams New Manager
(Washington, DC) -- Matt Williams is officially in place as the new manager of the Washington Nationals. He has signed a multi-year contract to replace veteran skipper Davey Johnson, who retired after the 2013 season. Williams spent the last four seasons as a coach with the Diamondbacks. As a player, he was a five-time All-Star in 17 seasons as a third baseman with Arizona and San Francisco.
Sox Exercise Option On Lindstrom
(Chicago, IL) -- The Chicago White Sox have exercised their 2014 club option on reliever Matt Lindstrom. The 33-year-old will earn $4-million next season. Lindstrom made 76 appearances out of the bullpen in his first season with the White Sox, compiling a 2-4 record and a 3.12 earned run average. The team also named Todd Steverson hitting coach Thursday.
