Red Sox Take 3-2 Lead On Tigers

(Detroit, MI) -- The Boston Red Sox are just one win away from reaching the World Series.  Mike Napoli homered as Boston jumped out to a 4-0 lead and held on for a 4-3 win over Detroit in Game Five of the American League Championship Series at Comerica Park. Jacoby Ellsbury and David Ross also drove in a run each for the Red Sox, who can close out the best-of-seven series with a win in Game Six on Saturday at Fenway Park. Jon Lester tossed 5 1/3 innings of two-run ball for the win. Koji Uehara recorded the final five outs for his second save of the series and fourth of the postseason. Miguel Cabrera and Brayan Pena plated a run each for the Tigers. Game One winner Anibal Sanchez allowed four runs, three earned, in six frames to suffer the loss.

 

Dodgers, Cardinals Set For Game Six

(St. Louis, MO) --  The Cardinals have a chance to wrap up the National League Championship Series tonight in Game Six at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals have Michael Wacha on the mound against Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw. Both pitchers faced off in Game Two with Wacha edging Kershaw in a 1-0 Cards' win. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

 

Cubs Interview Martinez For Manager

(Chicago, IL) -- The Cubs interviewed Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Dave Martinez yesterday for their open managerial position.  Martinez has been with the Rays the last six seasons. The Cubs are looking to replace the fired Dale Sveum. Chicago has interviewed San Diego bench coach Rick Renteria, former Arizona manager A.J. Hinch and former Cleveland manager Manny Acta.

 

White Sox Land Cuban Slugger

(Chicago, IL) -- The White Sox have landed Cuban slugger Jose Abreu. ESPN says the White Sox have agreed to a six-year, $68-million deal with the 26-year-old first baseman. The Astros and Red Sox were also in the mix. In 2010-11 Abreu hit over .450 with 33 homers and 93 RBI in 66 games while in Cuba. He batted .360 with three long balls and nine RBI in this year's World Baseball Classic.

 

Nolan Ryan Retiring From Rangers

(Arlington, TX)  --  Nolan Ryan is retiring as CEO of the Rangers effective at the end of the month.  He cites a desire to get back to ranching and spending time with his grandchildren.  Ryan says the decision to strip him of his team president title last season has nothing to do with his retirement.  It was rumored he was going to leave the club then, but he decided to stay on.  Ryan also sold his stake in the Rangers.
