Dodgers Stave Off Elimination
(Los Angeles, CA) -- There will be a Game Six in the National League Championship Series. Adrian Gonzalez homered twice as the Dodgers defeated the Cardinals 6-4 in Game Five in Los Angeles. Gonzalez says they have confidence they can overcome the deficit in this series.
Carl Crawford and A.J. Ellis also went deep for the Dodgers, who now trail three-games-to-two in the best-of-seven series. Zack Greinke tossed seven innings of two-run ball plus drove in a run in the victory. Carlos Beltran tripled in a run, while Matt Holliday went 3-for-4 with an RBI-double for the Redbirds. Joe Kelly allowed four runs in five frames for the loss. The series shifts back to St. Louis for Game Six Friday.
Tigers Even ALCS With Red Sox At Two
(Detroit, MI) -- The Detroit Tigers have evened up the American League Championship Series at two games apiece. Torii Hunter, Miguel Cabrera and Austin Jackson drove in two runs each as the Tigers topped the Boston Red Sox 7-3 in Game Four of the ALCS at Comerica Park. Tigers manager Jim Leyland says he was not relaxed during the game despite the large lead.
Jose Iglesias plated a run and scored a run for Detroit, which jumped out to a 7-0 lead after four innings. Doug Fister struck out seven over six innings of one-run ball for the win. Jacoby Ellsbury went 4-for-5 with an RBI, while Shane Victorino and Jarrod Saltalamacchia also knocked in a run each for the Sox. Jake Peavy was pounded for seven runs in three-plus frames to suffer the loss. Game Five is Thursday in Detroit.
Sox Complete Crain Deal With Rays
The Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Rays have completed their trade from July. The White Sox sent reliever Jesse Crain to Tampa for two players to be named and cash. On Wednesday, the Rays sent pitcher Sean Bierman and shortstop Ben Kline to Chicago. Crain never pitched with Tampa Bay due to shoulder tendinitis. He is now a free agent.
