North Clay Junior High Takes Third at State Baseball Tourney

PINCKNEYVILLE -- North Clay (Louisville) Junior High School's baseball team finished third in the SIJHSAA Class M State Tournament with a 1-0 win over Red Bud Thursday.

The two teams went scoreless through six innings before North Clay scored the winning run in the top of the seventh. Colt VanDyke had a double and drove in the winning run. Reese Blank also had a double in the contest.

Jordan Bloemer picked up the pitching win, going all seven innings, allowing three walks and striking out 12.

The eighth-graders playing their final game were Bailey Zimmerman, Blank, VanDyke, Steven Jessie, Drew Barbee, Quincy Aldrich and Bloemer. During the season, the squad won the  St. Anthony Round Robin Tournament, was Junior Midland Trail Conference regular season co-champions and tournament champions and won the Class M regional.

The squad finishes the season with an 18-6 record.

Goreville won the state championship by downing Nashville 9-4.
