Altamont, St. A, South Central, SSW Advance in NTC Tourney

Altamont, Effingham St. Anthony, South Central and Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor picked up opening round victories in the National Trail Conference Baseball Tournament Monday.
St. Anthony 1, Neoga 0
The Bulldogs didn't score until the fifth inning and then tallied what would prove to be the winning run. St. Anthony loaded the bases in the first inning when Jacob Lorenz led off with a triple. Neil Williams followed with a single and stole second and Austin Bushur drew a walk. But Neoga's Walk toughened up and got the next three batters.
St. Anthony had runners on again in the second, third and fourth as did Neoga but they were left stranded. Then in the fifth, Eli Dasenbrock led off by drawing a walk. He was sacrificed over by Brad Puckett and came home on a double by Alex Hoelscher.
Neoga had an opportunity in the sixth and a runner on in the seventh but couldn't get them past second base.
At St. Anthony

At Strasburg
Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor edged Dieterich 1-0 in a pitcher's dual. M. Jones picked up the victory on a one-hitter with no walks and two strikeouts. T. Traub suffered the tough-luck loss on a three-hitter with two walks and 11 strikeouts.
The lone run came in the sixth inning. J. Bohnhoff, T. Traub and C. Thoele had a single each for Dieterich while Bugger had a double for Stew-Stras/Windsor.
At Strasburg

At Kinmundy
South Central handed Brownstown/St. Elmo a 6-3 loss behind an 11-hit attack. The Cougars trailed Brownstown/St. Elmo 3-1 until the bottom of the fourth then tallied three runs to lead 4-3 and tacked on single runs in the fifth and sixth.
Kyle Bray and Brett Harmerier led the Cougars (10-4) with two singles and a double each. Harmeier added an RBI.
Dalton Parks and Dustin Lawson had two singles each for Brownstown/St. Elmo (9-10). Lawson had an RBI.
At Kinmundy

Altamont easily handled Beecher City 8-0. The Indians took off to a 2-0 first inning lead then tallied two more in the second and had a three-run sixth.
Miller pitched a one-hitter with one walk and 13 strikeouts. Teammates had nine hits in the contest led by Borders with three singles and an RBI and Cornett with a single, double and two RBI.
