Teutopolis Advances in Junior High State Baseball Tournament

PEORIA -- Teutopolis Junior High School advanced in the Class 2A State Baseball Tournament Friday at Eastside Centre in East Peoria.

T-town edged unbeaten Carrollton 2-1. The score was tied at 1-1 in the fifth after the two squads went through four scoreless innings. The winning run came in the top of the seventh.

Both teams had four hits in the contest. Landon Jansen led T-town in hitting with two singles and drove in both runs. Collin Funneman and Lee Hardiek had a single each. Funneman picked up the pitching win after coming on in relief in the sixth, allowing two hits and striking out one. Ethyn Dust pitched five innings, allowing one run, two hits, four walks and striking out eight.

T-town (17-4) advances to meet either Maroa-Forsyth or Princeville at 10 a.m. Saturday in semifinal round action. The winner advances to the state championship at 4:30 p.m. Saturday while the loser will play for third place at 2:30. Carrollton ended the season with a 14-1 record.
