St. A, Effingham, T-town, Altamont, Stew-Stras Advance To Regional Championships

Five local junior high school baseball squads advanced to regional championship games after Saturday action.

Class 1A Findlay Okaw Valley Regional

Effingham St. Anthony moved into the title game by bouncing Dieterich 14-5. Findlay Okaw Valley blanked Sigel St. Michael 10-0 in the opener.

The Bullpups had 10 hits in the contest led by J. Guy with two singles, two doubles and four RBI, Seachrist with two singles and two RBI and Utz with a double and two RBI.

St. Anthony and Findlay Okaw Valley will meet at 4:15 p.m. today for the regional championship.

Class 2A Teutopolis  Regional

Teutopolis and Altamont claimed easy victories Saturday. T-town blanked Brownstown/St. Elmo 15-0 in four innings. Collin Funneman pitched three innings, allowing one hit, no walks and striking out five to pick up the victory.

Jack Goeckner had three singles and three RBI while Ethyn Dust had two doubles, a triple and two RBI.

In the second contest, Altamont bounced Neoga 13-3 in five innings. Altamont broke a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning, scoring 10 runs to end the game via the 10-run rule.

Altamont had six hits.

T-town will now face Altamont at 4:30 p.m. today for the reginoal title.

Class 1A Sullivan Regional

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor blanked Sullivan 9-0 in the second game Saturday in the Sullivan Regional. In the opener, Shelbyville Moulton won over Decatur Lutheran 6-2.

Stew-Stras/Windsor took a 3-0 first inning lead and never looked back. Isaac Kramer had three hits and two RBI while Armes and Kessler had two hits each. Kessler drove in two runs while Armes had one RBI. Kramer pitched a no-hitter with three walks and seven strikeouts to improve to 5-2.

Stew-Stras/Windsor faces Shelbyville Moulton today at 4:30 p.m. for the regional championship.

Class 3A Effingham Regional

Effingham will be playing for its own regional championship today at 4 p.m. after picking up a victory Saturday.

Effingham trounced Charleston 15-3 in the second game Saturday. In the opener, Mount Zion won over Mattoon 7-2.

Effingham faces Mount Zion at 4 p.m. today for the right to advance to the Mount Zion Sectional Saturday.

 

At Louisville

North Clay (Louisville) closed out the regular season with a 12-1 win over Iuka to improve to 14-4.

North Clay had nine hits in the contest and was aided by two Iuka errors. North Clay is back in action Thursday in the Wayne City Regional against Fairfield at 4:15 p.m.
