Wiethop Reaches 300th Win, Area Roundup

The Effingham Junior High School baseball squad won four more games over the weekend to improve its record to 11-1 on the season. In addition, Coach Rod Wiethop earned his career 300th win Friday when the Mustangs defeated Homer Glenn 4-3.

This was the second 300th victory for Wiethop who had celebrated his 300th win as a basketball coach earlier in the year. And he's done it over three states, Illinois, Indiana and Kentucy.

Drew Levitt, Brett Koester and Bryce Lohman hit home runs over the weekend to contribute to the Mustangs winning streak. The A team returns to action Thursday against Charleston.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis blasted Altamont 15-0 in four innings. Lee Hardiek pitched a no-hitter with one walk and six strikeouts. He allowed only the one baserunner.

Jack Goeckner had three singles and an RBI while Michael Deters had two doubles and three RBI.

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor trounced Brownstown/St. Elmo 18-6 in six innings. Stew-Stras/Windsor took an 8-0 first inning lead. Brownstown/St. Elmo pulled within two in the third inning but S-S/Windsor tallied a run in the fourth, four in the fifth and five more in the sixth.

Dalton Armes allowed four hits in three innings for the win to improve to 3-1. He had two walks and five strikeouts.

Thies had three hits and four RBI while Armes had four hits and three RBI.
