St. A Claims Two Wins, T-town Champion At Own Tourney

Effingham St. Anthony picked up two high school baseball victories Saturday. The Bulldogs edged Webber Township (Bluford) 14-13 and then downed Century 10-8.
In the opener, St. Anthony trailed Webber Township 11-7 going into the sixth then scored two runs and finished with five in the seventh for a 14-11 lead. Webber Township came back in the bottom of the frame, scoring two runs, only to fall short.
Jacob Lorenz hit a home run with two outs in the seventh to tie the score. Freshman Bryan Jansen had a two RBI single to put the Bulldogs ahead.
In the second contest, St. Anthony took a 3-0 first inning lead and led the rest of the way. Eric Gertner had three hits for the Bulldogs while Alex Hoelscher and Eli Dasenbrock had two each.
The Bulldogs used seven different pitchers to piece together the wins. Kyle Bourgeois earned both victories. St. Anthony is now 3-1 and will start National Trail Conference action Tuesday at Brownstown/St. Elmo at 4:30 p.m.

At Teutopolis
Teutopolis won the championship of its own Wooden Bat Tournament Saturday by blanking Neoga 10-0 in the title contest.
T-town banged out 14 hits in the game led by L. Niemerg with a single, home run and two RBI, J. Kenter with two singles and an RBI, C. Will with a single, double and an RBI and T. Flach with two singles and an RBI.
Neoga's lone hit came from T. Moore with a single. D. Probst picked up the pitching win with one walk and nine strikeouts.
In the third place game, North Clay (Louisville) blanked Dieterich 12-0. The Cardinals had 12 hits in the contest led by A. Cox with a single, double, triple and four RBI, L. Britton with two singles, a double and two RBI and S. Traub with a double and an RBI.
A. Cox picked up the no-hit pitching win with one walk and six strikeouts.
In opening games, Teutopolis defeated North Clay 8-3. B. Wenthe had a single, two doubles and an RBI while R. Hardiek had three singles and two RBI.
Neoga defeated Dieterich 8-2. Neoga had two three-run innings in the first and fifth. G. Walk and J. Hoedebecke combined to pitch a four-hitter. Both gave up two hits each. Walk had four bases on balls and seven strikeouts.
