Efifngham Junior High School started the baseball season on a good note by defeating Centralia 8-1 at EHS Field Monday.

Five Mustang pitchers combined for a two-hitter while Brett Koester collected two hits and an RBI.

The Mustangs have a B game at Teutpolis Wednesday and the A team will face St. Anthony Thursday. The Mustangs are 1-0 on the season.

Neoga 9, Stew-Stras/Windsor 7

Neoga had an eight-run second and tallied its final run in the fourth to improve to 3-1 on the season with a 9-7 win over Stew-Stras/Windsor.

Stew-Stras/Windsor was making a comeback in the bottom of the seventh, scoring one run to pull within 9-7, but fell short.

Neoga was led by Ramert with three hits and two RBI and Fritcher and Wood with two hits and an RBI each.

Stew-Stras/Windsor was led by Kramer with four hits and an RBI and Thies and Kessler with two hits each. Kessler had an RBI. The squad drops to 0-2 on the season.

North Clay (Louisville) bounced Lawrenceville behind an 11-hit attack. Aldrich had two singles, a home run and drove in four runs while VanDyke and Blank had a single and a triple each. VanDyke had one RBI while Blank had three. Zimdars had two singles and two RBI and Bloemer a double and an RBI.

Bloemer and Zimdars combined to pitch a three-hitter. Bloemer had six strikeouts and Zimdars two.

Jasper County tallied three runs in each of the first three innings and blanked Cumberland 10-0. Nick Cohorst picked up the pitching win on a one-hitter with no walks and seven strikeouts.

Conner Bierman led the way, hitting with a triple and driving in two runs.
