Neoga, South Central Claim Wins, Baseball Roundup

MARSHALL -- Neoga and Marshall went the first three innings of high school baseball without scoring Monday.

But Neoga broke free with a single run in the fourth then tacked on three more in the sixth to blank Marshall 4-0.

The Indians had eight hits in the contest. Colin Blazich had the lone extra base hit with a triple. Malik Coy finished with two singles and two RBI while Evan Fearday and Garrett Ballinger added two singles each. Matt Probst finished with a single and drove in a run.

Blazich picked up the victory on the mound. He went 4.1 innings, allowing no runs on five hits, three walks while striking out seven.

At Marshall

At Cowden

South Central came calling and handed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City a 15-1 loss in five innings via the 10-run rule Monday.

The Cougars held a 3-1 opening inning lead then added on seven in the second, one in the third and two runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Hudson Moore had three hits in the 16-hit attack with a single, two doubles and an RBI. Two home runs were hit. Callaway Smith had a single, home run and four RBI while Maddox Robb had a solo homer. Colton Smith finished with a single double and two RBI and Trevan Sidwell with two singles and two RBI. Zane Montes, Evan Hoover, Chase Guerrettaz and Luke Shumate finished with a single and an RBI each.

Callaway Smith was the winner on the mound. He went two innings, allowing one run on two hits, one walk while striking out three.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City had two hits led by Conner Nowitzke with a double and Hunter Pope with a single.

At Lawrenceville

Only two runs were scored and unfortunately for Dieterich it was not on their side of the scoreboard in the 2-0 loss Monday to Lawrenceville.

Also, Lawrenceville's E. Ivers tossed a no-hitter, allowing three walks while striking out eight.

The Indians scored their two runs in the third.inning.

E. Venard had a double and W. Bice a single and an RBI. G. Moore also had an RBI.

Fairfield came calling and went home with a 10-0 victory over Newton Monday.

The Mules tallied three runs in the third, four in the fourth, one in the fifth and finished out with two in the seventh.

Newton had five hits, all singles by Ferguson, Fulton, Meinhart, Horner and Barthelme.

The Eagles finished with four errors.
